HP Intros SDN App Store, Developer Kit, New Products and Services

By Paula Bernier September 30, 2013

HP is bringing the app store concept to software-defined networking.

To support that effort, HP has introduced an SDN Developer Kit, which is slated for availability in November. It offers HP partners a simulation suite and virtual test lab through which they can create, test and validate SDN applications based on the HP VAN SDN controller. Pricing for the controller starts at $495.

Partners can then sell their HP-vetted solutions on the company’s SDN App Store, which opens for business during the first half of 2014.

Aastra, Blue Coat Systems, BlueCat, Citrix Systems, Ecode Networks, F5, Infoblox, Infranics, Intel, Microsoft, MIMOS, PwC, Qosmos, Radware, Real Status, Riverbed, RMIT University, ShoreTel Inc., SAP, Tech Mahindra, VMware, Versatile and Websense are among the HP ecosystem partners that have registered for the HP SDN Developer Kit.

HP this week also introduced new educational opportunities, products and services as part of its SDN effort.

On the educational front, HP as part of its ExpertOne program now offers the HP SDN Learning Journey curriculum, which provides steps on how to prepare, engage and deliver SDN solutions. And starting in December it will come out with HP SDN Certification, which helps IT architects, managers and application developers meet HP’s performance standards for enterprise-grade SDN deployments. In addition, HP encourages partners to participate in SDN developer forums available via the company’s website.

Additionally, the company has come out with new support services for SDN developers and new SDN Apps Services and Support for customers. Both will be available in November.

On the new products front, HP announced OpenFlow support for 10 HP FlexNetwork routers. That includes the HP MSR2000, 3000, 4000 and HP Virtual Services Router (VSR) Series routers. HP already had offered OpenFlow on 50 switches.
